I'm Tom Holowchuk, a licensed, independent Medicare broker. "Independent" means I'm not tied to one insurance company. I compare the plans I offer in your ZIP code, explain the differences in plain English, and help you choose. My help costs you nothing.
Why local help matters in Stafford Township
Medicare choices depend on where you live. The plans available in Stafford Township are not the same as the plans in Philadelphia or North Jersey, and the doctors and hospitals in each plan's network can change from one year to the next.
Many people in Manahawkin get their care at Southern Ocean Medical Center on Route 72, or see doctors in the offices nearby. Before I suggest any plan, I check that your doctors and the hospital you'd want to use are covered, and that your prescriptions are on the plan's drug list. That one step prevents most of the unpleasant surprises people call me about.
Who I help
-
People turning 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period starts three months before your 65th birthday month. I'll walk you through when to sign up for Part A and Part B and how to avoid late penalties.
-
People retiring or leaving work coverage. If you're 65 or older and losing an employer plan, you usually get a Special Enrollment Period. Timing matters, so it's worth a quick call before your last day.
-
People unhappy with their current plan. Higher copays, a doctor who left the network, or a drug that got more expensive? We can look at your options during the right enrollment window.
-
Families helping a parent. Many of my calls come from sons and daughters. You're welcome to join the meeting.
Serving Stafford's 55+ communities
Stafford Township has several active-adult neighborhoods, including Fawn Lakes, Atlantic Hills, Escapes Ocean Breeze, Perry's Lake and West Bay Village. If you've just moved into one of them from another county or state, you'll likely need to review your Medicare coverage. Moving out of a plan's service area can end your current plan and open a Special Enrollment Period. Let's make sure there's no gap.
How a review works
-
A free conversation. By phone, Zoom, or in person, whatever is easiest for you.
-
Your list. Bring your doctors, your prescriptions and doses, and your Medicare card.
-
A side-by-side comparison. I show you the options I offer that fit your doctors, drugs and budget, including "stay where you are" when that's the right answer.
-
Help enrolling, and after. Every fall, during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7), I check your plan against what's new for the coming year, at no charge.
Other coverage people ask about
Original Medicare doesn't cover routine dental, and a hospital stay can still leave you with copays. I can also explain standalone dental plans, hospital indemnity plans, and cancer, heart attack and stroke plans so you can decide if any of them make sense for you.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for your help?
No. There is no cost to you for my help. Brokers are paid by the insurance companies, and that payment does not change your premium.
Can we meet in person in Manahawkin?
Yes. I'm based in Manahawkin and meet by phone, Zoom, or in person. Call (732) 554-3021 to set a time.
I just moved to Stafford Township. Do I need a new plan?
Possibly. Many plans are tied to a service area. Moving can give you a Special Enrollment Period to choose new coverage. Call soon after your move so you don't miss the window.
When can I change my Medicare plan?
Most people can make changes each fall between October 15 and December 7. Some people qualify for other enrollment periods, such as when they move or lose other coverage.
