Standing Strong With Medicare

Hospital Indemnity Plans in Ocean County, NJ

A hospital stay can leave you with real out-of-pocket costs, even with Medicare. A hospital indemnity plan pays you cash for each day you're admitted, so the bills don't become the emergency.

How It Works

Hospital indemnity is supplemental coverage that pays a fixed cash benefit directly to you when you're admitted to the hospital, typically a set amount per day for a set number of days. It is not tied to what the hospital bills, and it doesn't go to the hospital. The check comes to you.

That matters because Medicare Advantage plans usually charge a daily copay for inpatient stays, often $300 to $400 a day for the first several days. A hospital indemnity plan is designed to offset exactly that. You can use the cash for copays, deductibles, travel, a family member's time off work, or anything else the stay creates.

Plans vary in daily benefit amount, number of covered days, and add-on riders for things like outpatient surgery, ambulance, or skilled nursing. I'll match the benefit to the plan you actually have so you're not overpaying for coverage you don't need.

Who It's For

Hospital indemnity makes the most sense if you're on a Medicare Advantage plan. Advantage plans keep premiums low by shifting cost to you when you actually use care, and a hospital stay is where that shows up fastest. A few days inpatient can easily mean $1,500 or more in copays before you've paid for anything else.

It can also make sense on a Medigap Plan N or high-deductible plan, or for anyone who simply wants a cash cushion for the unexpected.

Premiums are usually modest, often a fraction of what the first day in the hospital would cost you, and most plans are guaranteed renewable once you're in. Many are available year-round, so you don't have to wait for an enrollment period.

Adding It to Your Coverage

Hospital indemnity is a standalone policy, so it sits alongside your Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan without changing it. Most plans ask a few health questions, but there's no medical exam, and coverage can usually start the first of the following month. If you're already a client, this is something we can review at your annual plan check-in or any time your situation changes.
